How do you refill your ink cartridge?

That totally depends on the printer. For most of them, you can lift the cover, and the carriage slides to a "park" position, then again for most of them, you press down gently on the front edge of the cartridge.

Each printer of course is slightly different but with all of the new ones that I know of, when you open the lid or door on the printer the cradle that holds the inkjets or ink tanks, depending on the model, will slid over into a loading position. The printer must be turned on to change the inkjets though. When it slides over into position, simply pull it out and slid the knew one in. Note- That on alot of the printers there is a clip that holds it into place and this need to be opened first. There is normally a little handle, clip or tab of some sort that simply lifts up. On the HP inkjet printers they are adding a geometric shape ( square, hexagon, pentagon, etc.) on the top of the inkjet as well as on the lid and/or door of the inkjet printer so that you know on which side the inkjet is designed to go. I really good piece of advice is to change the inkjets one at a time, I have see a lot of people bringing in or calling about a inkjet that is empty or not printing because they got confused and put the empty back in or installed the inkjets on the wrong side. Also remember to check the bottom of the new inkjets as they usually come with a some clear print head tape on them to prevent the ink head from drying out.

A print head can become clogged if long periods of time lapse between print jobs. Dried drops of printer ink clog the small holes in an inkjet print head and, as a result, your printed documents become streaky and illegible. Here are three simple ways to clean your print head.

#1: Use cleaning software. Most printers come with cleaning software as part of its maintenance package. To clean your print head with software, locate the printer on your computer. For example, in Windows, click "Start," then "Settings," and then "Printers and Faxes." Right-click on your printer and select "Printer Preferences" or "Properties." Here, you'll find the printer's cleaning feature or maintenance options. This method will usually solve a minor clog after a few test prints.

#2: Change the ink cartridge. This will only work if your ink cartridge contains a print head. For tough clogs that software cannot fix, simply replace the printer's ink cartridge to solve the problem. And don't worry about the expense, because you can purchase remanufactured printer ink for half the price!

#3: Get your hands dirty. If you're feeling handy, or if cleaning software won't fix the clog, try to clean the print head yourself. Most office supply stores sell printer cleaning packages for the "do-it-yourself" types. If your print head is removable, take it out and soak it in warm water for an hour or so. This will loosen the dried ink and allow you to resume normal printing. If your print head cannot be removed, simply take out the ink cartridges and gently rub a damp paper towel or cloth against the print head. After you rub out the clogs, run a few test prints to ensure that the printouts are streak-free.

To avoid print head clogs altogether, regularly check and clean your printer.
