What allows computers to connect to the internet through ethernet?

Computers connect to the internet through Ethernet using Ethernet cables and network interface cards (NICs). The NIC facilitates communication between the computer and the local network by converting data into a format suitable for transmission over the Ethernet cable. This wired connection allows for reliable and high-speed data transfer, enabling access to the internet through a router or switch that links to an Internet Service Provider (ISP). The Ethernet protocol ensures that data packets are properly formatted and transmitted across the network.

What kind of hardware is a nic?

A network interface card is required to connect a computer to a computer network via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, etc. A NIC should be included in most new computers. Each NIC has a unique serial number, and helps with data transfer.

Do you need 2 bluetooth dongles to connect a laptop to main PC?

If neither of the computers have Bluetooth hardware in them already, then yes, you will need one dongle per computer (so 2 altogether). Extra: If you're wanting to transfer data at that limited range, you might be able to connect the computers to the same network (via WiFi or Ethernet cables) or connect them directly using an Ethernet crossover cable.

What port can be used to connect two computers for data transfer?

Dvi port Edit- NOT DVI port. This is wrong in every sense of the word. DVI is used to transfer VISUAL DATA. For a monitor. You can't use it for I/O. Use an I/O port on legacy computers or a parallel port. Newer computers can use Firewire, 2-ended USB, or even an Ethernet port for computer-to-computer data transfer. I'm not in the habit of blanking answers, even if they're terribly wrong. Just so you know, agian DVI ports can't be used for I/O data transfers.

Should one believe ATT DSL installation software manual when it says that a Ethernet adapter needs to be installed in a computer from 2002.?

In order to connect to the DSL modem we need to have an operational Ethernet port on the computer. That is what the user guide is referring to. Earlier data connections (dial up) on phone line modems did not require an Ethernet port. All DSL modems now transfer data to computer through an Ethernet port (wired or wireless).
