There is an option called default page what firefox is trying to open every time a new page is called. But in this case it appears the link is no longer valid. Or someone has set an invalid URL as your default startup page. You can go to the tools > options menu and change the URL in the main tab of the little window than opens.

These are tab stops. In Microsoft Word you can create a tab stop by clicking and dragging on the horizontal ruler, where they appear as flipped-over black L or T marks. If there are faint marks below the ruler at 1-inch intervals, these are the default tab stops.
If you can go to Menu>Tools>Extensions and have a look in there if something has been added that has replaced the default Google New Tab page with a blank page. If you can't see anything obvious try disabling all your extensions and then see if that fixes it.
When you set a new tab, all default tabs prior to it are cleared. Default tabs after the last custom tabs that have been created will remain. So custom tabs override default tabs.
In internet explorer, go to file, and click new tab. Or you can press the white page next to the tab you are already on. And in Firefox, you can go to your settings --> Tabs, and change what it does when pressing a link.
