No. Information is saved on the hard drive of the computer, no the motherboard.
If your warranty is still available for your laptop, you can send it back to Dell for a website. Alternatively, you can buy a new motherboard from Dell's official website.
Computers with broken are still very valuable as long as the screen is still good you can get money for it. You can sell it on ebay or to a place that repairs laptops.
As this is an older model of laptop, you won't find the product anywhere in stores; HP doesn't sell it either. Your best bet is to look on a site like eBay or Amazon; many users still offer the motherboard for about $15-$30.
The computer is not properly grounded. If it's plugged in and it still does it, it may also be the wiring in the house. Try plugging it into a 3 pronged power bar. If that doesn't work it may be a grounding issue with your motherboard. Take it to a repair shop.
Hi, I have a Sony Vaio 2012 edition I think and it was working perfectly fine, and still is.. but it just will not accept CD's! It accepts DVD's and I can watch films perfectly, but when i insert a CD into the drive it spins and just stops. I've tried to get around this by using another laptop to extract the music files from a CD and then use a memory stick to try to get them onto my laptop but my laptop refuses to recognise the files as music and will not play them. I'm pretty sure there isn't an issue with the drive, because as I said DVD's run perfectly.. its just CD's and music files that it refuses to accept. Any ideas on what the problem is would be greatly appreciated. thanks :)
Partly depends on your laptop, but most will still run with the lid closed.
Try plugging the device into the wall and turn it on. If it still doesn't turn on, you may be dealing with a shorted motherboard. Hopefully it is under warrantee then. If it works with AC power, then it very well could be a battery issue.
A portable PC has several other names. It is a computer that can be easily moved around yet still has a standard motherboard and more storage capacity than a laptop. Some other names include lunchbox computer and luggable computer.

1) if your motherboard BIOS allows you to select any "Boot Device" and, 2) if you have a boot device with the necessary Operating System files on it, then 3) Yes. Otherwise, No. Just remember you won't have access to ANY of the files on the C: drive - your programs or anything.
