You can download a free fire wall from the site at the link below
The free version does not contain a firewall but you can use your windows firewall with it. You have to buy the full version if you want a firewall with the software. I found that Norton 360 is the best for me.
Norton and ZoneAlarm are two companies that offer free firewall program options. Most Windows-based systems also have the ability to use a free Microsoft firewall.
Avast!
When it comes to free firewall, Comodo is the best which offers a very good firewall protection. Here is the list of companies offering free firewall software. 1. Comodo - personalfirewall. 2. Emsisoft Online Armor Free 3. Agnitum Outpost Free Internet Firewall 4. Tinywall - Lightweight Firewall
CNET . Type in the combo box Comodo firewall and download for free.
Windows Firewall (XP SP2)
Windows XP has a built in Firewall. Turn it on. One free one is Zone Alarm if you are not running XP.
There are free firewall programs that are available such as Windows Firewall, ZoneAlarm, Outpost and Comodo. Some of these firewalls offer upgrades for a small cost, and you can download the free versions or upgraded versions directly from the specified websites.
A Zone Alarm free firewall is pretty good. You can find more information about it on this website http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firewall.htm
AVG resident shield is NOT a firewall. It monitors files being accesed or written for viruses. Zone Alarm firewall is free for home personal use, and several other companies also provide free firewall software for home use. Remember to scan with up to date anti-virus program if you download free firewall software as there are some that are fake and actually contain spyware or malware.
In my opinion AVG Antivirus, i am not sure if they free version comes with the firewall or not, but either way its is a great antivirus and firewall combination.
Yes, in my experience it does. What happens is that the avast! Web Shield (process ashWebSv.exe) locks up, as does Ashampoo's process firewall.exe, with CPU usage at 100%. Solutions: a) replace Ashampoo firewall with another free firewall, such as ZoneAlarm or PCTools Free Firewall; b) use Windows Firewall (not such a bad suggestion if you're already behind a hardware router firewall); c) replace avast! with another free antivirus, such as AVG Free or Avira AntiVir PE Classic. Personally, I find the extra real-time protection available in avast! to be worth the trouble of changing to, and 'training' a different fireewall.
