For Microsoft products only:
There are no keyboard codes for accent marks. There are, however, symbols that contain letters with accent codes all in one.
If you see a button on your toolbar that looks like a horseshoe, that's the button you use for inserting symbols. Press that button and it will give you a screen of special characters and symbols that you can select from. Select one, click on "insert" and then exit out of the screen.
If a horseshoe is nowhere in your toolbars, you most likely will be able to use the insert function. Select insert, then select symbol. The same screen as you would see above comes up and you can select a symbol (or scroll down until you see what you're looking for) and then select it, "insert", and exit out.
If you're working in new versions of Word, you can use the following keyboard commands:
Alt + n, u. A small window will show up with commonly used symbols. If you don't see what you want there, type an "m" for More Symbols and you'll get a vast amount of symbols and special characters to choose from. You can insert whatever you need, one at a time.

Then click okay, and there will be a language bar on the bottom right hand side of the screen. go back into PowerPoint and select the language from the drop down language select, and certain keys on the keyboard will have switched around! that is the most permanent way. Accent marks are placed above certain vowels to indicate pronunciation. In Spanish, accent marks are used to indicate where the stress should fall in a word. In French, accent marks can also indicate the quality of the vowel sound. In languages like German, accent marks are used less frequently and usually indicate a change in pronunciation.
