Well you can upgrade your internet connection to Broadband or High Speed. You can also get rid of unnecessary network componets. Like extra printers and scanners. It takes longer for people to know what to print and scan from if there are multiples of each. But increasing the number of hardware componets may make your network run faster if you to many people using one. Getting the newest componets will greatly make the network run faster. Five years ago copies printed at about 5 pages a minute. Now then can do about 12 to 20 a minute. The best thing to do is to run network analysis software. This software will collect data on your network and display it.Adding on the previous answer:

YES, this one is not as cheap, but I highly recommend going wired if possible, it is a less flawed connection and is usually faster. The other option is to upgrade to a Wireless N router and wireless N devices

You need to see that your computer is virus and spyware free. and there is minimal programs running in the background service.

Click start>click run type in msconfig and then press enter. Goto the start up tab and uncheck everything except your anti virus/firewall or security program.click ok and reboot. When you come back to the desktop check the box 'do not show this message again" and click ok .
