All Macs come with a free-trial of iWork (the version is the year that your purchased your product in), if your computer does not have this free trial, you can download it from Apple at: www.apple.com/iwork/
You can purchase a serial number or box version of iWork for full functionality, it has all the features of Microsoft Office Word/Excel/Powerpoint, plus cross-platform compatibility, a large range of design options, an easier to understand user interface, and costs less.

The MacBook Air can access an SD card wirelessly when it is mounted and shared from another computer.
The macbook air super-drive is basically a disk drive(like the ones you find in other mac laptops). You can use it to play dvds, cds and games.
It's not recommended to use a magic eraser on a MacBook Air, as the abrasive material can scratch or damage the laptop's surface and screen. Instead, use a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with water or a gentle electronics cleaning solution to wipe down the exterior and screen. Always ensure the device is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
You can use rubbing alcohol and fire to clean it

Apple has a feature called Continuity that gives your MacBook Air the ability to make a call to a mobile phone. It does require a MacBook Air or Pro with the Yosemite OS, and the iPhone would need to be iOS 8.

Excel does not use paragraphs and is the wrong tool for writing letters or any kind of academic writing. I would recommend MS Excel instead.
