How can I test to see if my motherboard needs to be replaced?

If your computer is not working then there is a lot of things that can go wrong besides the motherboard i.e. power-supply, ram, cpu. My suggestion is take it to a professional. If you want to do it yourself then you would need a working PC (of same type) along with the bad one. Replace the parts of the working pc with the parts of bad pc one by one to find out which part is the bad one. The bad part will not allow the good pc to work.

How do you install a mother board?

Making sure that the computer case you have is appropriate for the motherboard is the first step. Then it is much like legos. The motherboard will only fit in the computer case in one way. So will the Processor, the harddrive, the ram, the processor fan, and all the other parts. Do not force anything into place, if it does not go in easily try reorienting it. (The motherboard usually has screws and mounts, line them up with the case, and do not fret)
