In Windows XP
On the Start menu:

1. Select Control Panel

In Control Panel:

1. Be sure you are in Classic View (all Control Panel icons are showing)
2. If not, under Control Panel in the left pane, select Switch to Classic View
   
3. Select Sounds and Audio Devices.

In the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box, on the Volume tab:

1. Adjust the sound volume by moving the Device volumeslider.
2. Select OK.

The volume control icon in the Taskbar:

1. Select the volume control icon in the Taskbar.
2. Move the slider up (to increase volume) or down (to decrease volume).
