I don't know why they do it but we've been living with crows for 20 years now here in South Australia and the've suddenly started pecking on all of the windows in the last two weeks or so. They certaily aren't hungry and some of the windows are pretty much always in the shade so they're not pecking at their reflections either. It's really annoying as they are very loud and a little disturbing. I'm going to hang bright dangly things outside the windows and see if that works.

I saw in an illustrated crow book once that 3 crows meant marriage.
Seeing seven black crows is often associated with various interpretations in folklore and superstition. In some cultures, black crows symbolize change, transformation, or a warning of impending challenges. The number seven can signify completion or a spiritual awakening. Ultimately, the meaning can vary greatly depending on cultural context and personal beliefs.

According to some myths I've looked it possibly means that a dead, past relative is checking on you and making sure you are ok . Nothing to worry about really.
a case
It means you saw an abnormally colored crow. That's all. Such specimens are very rare.
I believe that eight crows constitute a "murder of crows". It is an old English expression.
yes
If you mean "Wheat Field With Crows," by Vincent Van Gogh, it was painted in July 1890.
That would be a slang-y Southern American saying. "Chicken a-pecking" just refers to a chicken pecking around on the ground, looking for food. "Don't that beat" is the phrase that Southerners use to mean "Isn't that a surprising fact," so the whole phrase is just a way of saying "My, you have said something surprising."
