If it is just an application freezing then you would click on the apple in the upper left hand corner. Then select 'Force Quit...' in the drop down menu. Select the 'not responding' application and force quit.

The 5th iMac was the aluminum iMac which came out in (August 2007), followed by the iMac Aluminum Unibody (2009). The newest iMac is simply called 2012 iMac and it came out on November 30, 2012.

I do not have a 24" iMac. I have a 20" iMac. Apple no longer sells the 24" iMac. If you will click the Apple logo on the top left of your screen and then click About This Mac then More Info you can find the answer.
