I do not have a 24" iMac. I have a 20" iMac. Apple no longer sells the 24" iMac. If you will click the Apple logo on the top left of your screen and then click About This Mac then More Info you can find the answer.
If everything on your iMac screen appears larger than normal the screen's resolution will have been changed - probably by some game that failed to switch it back again. Open System Preferences and then click on the Displays button. You can now select from available screen resolutions. The greater the resolution the smaller items will appear on the screen.
The maximum resolution available for Mac wallpapers is only limited by the size of the Mac screen. The wallpapers themselves can be of any resolution.
Change the screen resolution to a higher level. Click System Preferences in the Dock and then Display.

No, the screen is a LED display.
That would depend on what you consider to be "high-resolution". Though, the 24" iMac supports resolutions up to 1920 by 1200 pixels.

What allows you to adjust the screen resolution
The measurements used to determine a monitors screen resolution is Pixels per Inch (PPI). The size of a monitor in inches and the total pixels in the horizontal and vertical directions determines the PPI of the screens resolution. For Example a 15 inch monitor has a maximum of 1024x768 pixel resolution.
The iMac comes in two different screen sizes. Customers can choose from the smaller 21.5 inch screen or the larger 27 inch screen. Both options are available ion their website.
