Giant cloud rats, belonging to the genus Crateromys, are large, arboreal rodents native to the Philippines. They are characterized by their dense fur, long tails, and strong limbs, which aid in climbing. These nocturnal creatures primarily inhabit forests and are known for their distinctive vocalizations. Due to habitat loss and hunting, some species of giant cloud rats are considered endangered.
Naturally, giant rats do not have many predators because of their intimidating size. When they do die, it is usually because they get run over by cars.
Giant rats can commonly be found in sewers and drainage systems throughout the city. These are common homes for them as they are secluded from humans.
