What happens if you leave your computer in for a while and left it there and the screen is black?
Probably the power settings need to be adjusted. When the computer is standing idle for a time (the length of time being set in the power settings) the computer will shut down, or hibernate, hence the black screen. Taping the spacebar or the keyboard should bring the computer back to life.
