It depends on what you mean by "Port"...

A port could refer to the physical connection such as an Ethernet port.

But most likely you are referring to a port #. In networking, it refers to a particular identifier in the data packet that helps network protocols route that data to the appropriate application. (This occurs at the Transport Layer of the OSI model).

For example, when a piece of data arrives at your computer from the internet and is tagged to Port 80, your computer knows to hand that piece of data to your web browser.

A port, to put it simply, is like a door that information uses to pass in and out of your computer. Each port has it's own number assigned to it, (HTTP uses port 80, for instance). Different programs and utilities use different ports to get information in and out of your computer. There are 65,535 different ports that are available for that information to use.
