Toshiba satellite (if you're a PC person) or a MacBook (if you're a MAC person) I myself was in your boat not to long ago, but what was even worse for me was that I am technologically challenged. I basically needed a computer to write essays, check e-mails, YouTube, watch movies online, download notes, iTunes, and zshare. I had been using PCs my entire life until I was in finals and my Gateway (which I had for 5 years) totally crashed, the screen gave out, and replacing it would cost around $700 & up. My uncle lent me his MacBook, and I fell in love with it. I was under the impression that Macs are awful because they are for artsy people, they are hard to use, and are not compatible with anything, but I was very wrong. They are amazing! The only thing that is annoying is that there is no specific right click button on the laptop, you have to press "control and the trackpad" aside from that, I didn't find any problems, them again, my knowledge on computers is very limited. Good luck finding a laptop suited to your needs! Hope my recommendation helped a bit.
