* Codec is for coding analog data into digital form and decoding it back. The digital data coded by Codec are samples of analog waves.

* Modem is for modulating digital data into analog form and demodulating it back. The analog symbols carry digital data.

Could an inverted modem function as a codec?

A codec is a standard for compressing and decompressing sound or video. This has nothing to do with the function of a modem.A codec is a standard for compressing and decompressing sound or video. What is the difference if any between the demodulator part of a modem and coder part of a codec?

A coder can accept any kind of analog signal while demodulator can only accept a modulated sine wave. Then they generate the digital signal.

Are the modem and the codec functional inverses ie could an inverted modem?

No, the modem and codec are not exactly the functional inverse of each other. teh modem converts the digital data to analog signal by teh modulating part of it. teh demodulating part of the modem can be used to covert teh ANALOG SIGNAL to digital data....but this analog signal will be modulated analog signal. the coding part of teh codec convert teh analog signals to teh digital signal .these analog signals are pure analog signals. Hence teh codec and modem may seem as functional inverses but do not work as so due to teh fact dat the demodulating part of the modem used only the modulated analog signal and cannot process the pure analog signals .

The coder part of the codec and demodulator part of the modem are way too different from each other write on some aspects of the difference between both of them?

A codec is a device or computer program capable of encoding and decoding a digital data stream or signal. The word codec is a portmanteau (a blending of two or more words) of compressor-decompressor or, more commonly, coder-decoder. The demodulator takes the wavy analog signal from the line and converts it do a digital signal. The codec puts the transmitted data together from the data the demodulator spits out. A codec is used to more effectively use the bandwidth..
