What is the importance of netiquette in school?

Netiquette at SchoolCyberspace has the potential to be a tremendous resource for students and teachers at all levels. The internet was invented as a research tool, and it's been used at universities, especially by graduate students and professors, almost since its inception. Its use is now spreading downward to undergraduates, high school students, and even elementary schools.

And new uses pop up every day. There's a discussion group that functions as a support group for first-year teachers. Other discussion groups allow teachers in the same discipline to exchange ideas and teaching methods. At Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, California, there's a class devoted solely to the Internet. College teachers encourage their students to do their research on the net.

Unfortunately, all this new net traffic can present problems. The Internet was designed for use by adult computer experts, not novices and children. Children, of course, rapidly become computer experts. But the openness of the Internet, which makes it so useful to all users, can also be problematic in several situations. Adults worry that children in the midst of more or less innocent net Surfing may stumble across adult material not meant for their eyes. And novices can bombard experts with basic questions (violating Netiquette Rule 4, Respect other people's time).

It's the same concept in real life. If you're walking to your professor demanding answers, shouting at him, and never giving him/her a proper thanks .... would he/she answer your questions?

Good online behavior dictate a pleasant environment and allows online communities to thrive. You wouldn't want to help someone who was a jerk, would you?

Netiquette is a modern word to describe how well one behaves while communicating via the internet. In the present day due to vast advancements in the field of science and technology internet has become an unavoidable way to communicate. So, one have have the basic knowledge about the way he or she is supposed too behave while using internet for social networking sites, etc.

Academically, a student can learn and share unlimited knowledge through the internet without any geographic boundaries thus providing a free flow of information. While communicating it is common to find people from other cultures and backgrounds. Unlike social meetings where a person will be physically present while communicating, net communications are a lot more simple as people can communicate without bothering about the body language which plays a crucial role in the former. But we should be aware of using proper language as it is some times very difficult to transfer our views in the net.

Professionally a person can have unlimited access to all the platforms to learn his/her trade. Also in many of the jobs which require us to work on the internet a basic knowlege of newiquette will be an invaluable asset to have.
