FireWire is a high-speed serial bus. It is commonly used in higher-end digital cameras and external hard drives to allow for data to be transferred between them more quickly. However, FireWire can be used for almost any purpose, including scanners, networking, printers, and Musical Instruments.

You can use the FireWire port for high-speed multimedia devices.

I do not believe this model of DELL has a firewire port available. You will need some kind of adapter.
Depending on what speed your infrared port is. It is normally faster to use a fire-wire port.

One of the USB ports in most cases. If you have a newer camera it may have a Firewire port which you can use. There is a Firewire port on newer macs made in the last 5 years. Some very new Macs also have a Thunderbolt port that you can use if you camera has the output port.
Most these days will use some kind of USB Interface to connect to a computer for data sharing. Firewire was popular in the the past but has faded from use in recent years.
If the computer is able to accept PCI cards you will need to add a FireWire card to the computer and connect the camera to that. (See links below)
