There is an icon on the "header and footer" menu. It should be the fifth from the left and it looks like yellow clock.
In Microsoft Word 2007 and 2010, select Insert from the ribbon. You will see the Header and Footer options on the right-hand-side of the menu. There you will be able to modify your current document's header and footer.
Double click in the lower or upper part of the page (you need to be in Print layout view) below or above the area that text will go; or in Word 2003 Show>Header and Footer Menu item will open the header for editing , form there you can shift to the footer.

Drop down the "File" menu, by clicking file. Then Select Page Setup... Click on the Layout Tab. In the middle of the dialog box, you will see the sizing for the header and the footer. Microsoft Office Word 2003.
With the Mac's Mail application you can show the full header information for an email by selecting Message in the View menu and then Long Headers from the sub-menu. The equivalent keyboard shortcut is Shift Command H.
To place a header in a Microsoft Word document using Microsoft office 2007, go to the insert tab. Near the middle of the tab is an option for either a header of footer, click the one you want. If you are using and older version of office, I think you go to view in the toolbar and click the header/footer menu, but I haven't used the older office in a while, so this might be wrong.
