An outlier does affect the mean of the data. How it's affected depends on how many data points there are, how far from the data the outlier is, whether it is greater than the mean (increases mean) or less than the mean (decreases the mean).
The purpose of keeping the archieve is to keep the backup of important data, which can be either referenced in future or can be queried when needed. Few important applications of data archieving - 1. A very good example of archieving data is like we use winzip, winrar softwares in our personal computers. So that we can collate related data. 2. Usually we archieve data file on servers, to a backup repositories so that in case of emergencies or in case data loose, we can get fresh copy of data which was important. 3. In some organizations, which are processing data in bulk regulary, but that data is not frequently used, that data they archieves so that it can be used in future if needed, it saves costly space on servers.
