You really don't need a wifi hotspot for file sharing. If you are using Windows 7 or 8 you create an ad-hoc wireless network. In this case, one of the computers will turn in to a server and the other, a client. Don't get confused, nothing happens to your computers. Go to control panel -> Network and internet -> Network and sharing center -> Set up a new connection or network

Under that option, select "create ad-hoc network"

If this method doesn't work, you can open command prompt under admin privileges. Then type: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid= key=. The second step is, type,: netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Note that these commands must be typed in the laptop which you wanna turn into a server.

Then in the other laptop, this wireless connection must show up. All you gotta do now is to click "connect"

In the server computer, to "STOP" the hostednetwork, you should type the following command

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

That's all. Happy Networking!
