The mic is right next to the headphone jack on the top left of the iPad.
Yes, if you repeatedly do it, the mic will be damaged but once might be ok and that depends how hard you pressed on the mic. I think there is a rubber covering on the mic. Is there? Someone please confirm.

No, because the 3.5 mm headphone jack is only an output jack and therefore cannot take any sounds in. Unless you actually illegally modify the ipad's current microphone you cannot add an external mic.

Your software might turn off the internal speaker to prevent feedback from the live microphone, or your heaphone/mic jack may be broken.
You blow into the mic and the mic is the little hole on the front of the DS.

The iRig is designed for the iPod and iPad. It has a 1/8" 4-conductor plug which is not compatible with minidisc recorders. It is possible to make a custom adapter to allow you to use this mic, but there are other better mics that will work right away with a minidisc recorder without adapters, such as the Sony ECM-MS957.
