On a 1996 Mercury Mystique, the crankshaft position sensor is typically located near the bottom of the engine, mounted on the engine block, close to the crankshaft pulley. It can be accessed from underneath the vehicle, often requiring some removal of components for better visibility and access. If you're having difficulty locating it, consulting a service manual or repair guide specific to your vehicle can provide detailed diagrams and instructions.
