You can use the chkdsk command with the /f or /r switch in a command prompt window to check and fix errors on a disk without requiring a restart, as long as the drive is not the system drive. For example, you can run chkdsk D: /f to check and fix errors on the D: drive. However, if you attempt to run it on the system drive (usually C:), you will be prompted to schedule the check for the next system restart.
Halt
ps aux
a buddhist might say that this is a question wrongly asked. if you want to shut off a system immediately, you can use "poweroff -f", but you might find that it isn't "safe", in that it doesn't send halt signals to the running processes, so you might get errors in the file system. that happened to me a little while back. and i beleive just running "poweroff" turns the system off safely, but possibly not very quickly.
Use the 'ps' command. This command lists all of the processes running on the system, when they started, who the owner is, etc.
Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and tap the R key. This opens the Run box. Type in "cmd" and hit Enter. This opens the Command Line window. Type in "shutdown -r -t 00". Your computer will restart immediately. Leave off the "-t 00" if you want it to wait 30 seconds before restarting. Use "shutdown -s" to shutdown fully instead of just restart. Or you can use the "shutdown -l" option to logoff.

To restart your boiler after running out of oil, first, refill the oil tank. Next, locate the boiler's reset button, usually found on the burner control. Press the reset button to restart the burner; it may take a few minutes for the system to prime and start. If the boiler doesn't restart, you may need to bleed the oil line to remove any air trapped in the system.
A 1995 Ford F150 will start to die after running for about 15 minutes if the fuel or electrical system have a failure. A bad battery or electrical system will also prevent it from restarting.
Cycle the ignition switch on and off several times pausing briefly in the on position. This will prime the fuel system.
