kmz is zipped kml
The file extension .kmz is a Keyhole Markup language Zipped file type and is a placemark file that is used by the Google Earth application. To import these file types into most major AutoCAD packages, whether free or purchased, an add-on will need to be downloaded that can be found by checking the forums for the particular AutoCAD system used.
You can search for specific KML or KMZ files on the public Internet using the Google advanced search.Go to the Google search web site then click "advanced search" on the bottom of the page. From the advanced search page select "KML" or "KMZ" as the file type then add some specific keywords to find a specific file. For a short-cut just add the special directive filetype:kml or filetype:kmz to the end of search text on Google search page to restrict the search to only KML or KMZ files.Example: hiking trail filetype:kmlWill find KML files with hiking trail in the name or description.

The question can't be answered without knowing the meaning of "kmz". IF it means square kilometers (km2), then the side of the square is 1,264.911 meters. (rounded) But that's just a shot in the dark.
You'll see when you download the kmz. file from Google Earth Hacks.

When you select a map in 'My Maps' there should be a 'View in Google Earth' link in upper right that you can click.Google has removed the 'View in Google Earth' link from the Google Maps options, however, you can still transfer it to Google Earth. First click the link icon then copy the URL under the 'Paste link in email or IM' label. Next, append "&output=kml" to the URL (without the quotes) and open it in your web browser to launch Google Earth.UPDATE:Note that this trick has been removed as of August 2012 and Google Maps no longer supports the undocumented output=kmlparameter.Google has documented how to share data from Google Maps to Google Earth - see related link below.
You can't update these yourself, but they are updated by Google every 1-3 years. You can, however, add your own content (placemarks, image overays, etc.) to Google Earth or find other user-content in KML or KMZ files.
