The print orientation that utilizes the width of a page is called "landscape" orientation. It really depends on what you are printing. You would choose the orientation of the page based upon that.
Normally we print on pages in Portrait mode, but if you are printing the other way, it is called Landscape. They their names from the usual orientation of paintings of each type.
