Another cost cutting messure to save AOL money while increasing your inability to have full service at the full price. The check status will be fully discontinued as was "unsend" and other services. AOL will not, nor has it ever, provided information to it's users about changes it is making, have made, will make. It's a gamble everyday and a hit and miss part of dealing with AOL. It may work today or it may not, whose knows and they don't care is a simple answer.
Unsend Email is a BlackBerry app developed by PuguaSoft LLC that allows you to "undo" a sent email moments after sending it. You can find more information on their website: www.unsendemail.com Unsend Email is currently available in the BlackBerry App World: http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/5992 Excerpt from their website: With Unsend Email for the BlackBerry, you will never have to worry about accidentially sending or forwarding an email to the wrong person. With the simple press of a menu button, you can "unsend" an email moments after sending it (configurable from 5 seconds to 30 seconds). Forgot to add an attachment or include additional recipients to an email? No problem, simply press the menu button and select "Unsend Email" and your sent email will be undone. You can now edit the email body, add/remove attachments and recipients, and then re-send it or save it as a draft.
AOL, after many researching attempts, still advertises independently of AIM. If the two have indeed merged, AOL has ultimately swallowed AIM entirely.

AOL is a service which provides content and a forum to interact with other AOL members, as well as access email and the rest of the internet though its own web browser. AOL seems to have a problem right now ~ the "mark as unread" option is no longer an available action but "keep as new" does not return the message subject to boldface. AOL help is useless because it tells you to select "mark as unread" from the action menu, which is hard to do when it's not there
The AOL member directory does not exist any more. It has been discontinued for over 3 years now. An alternative is to go through "bebo", log in with an AOL account and the part where it says "you have XX friends" click on "find more friends" and one can search email address through there.
You go to AOL.com, go to AOL Mail, then click "Register Now!"
As of now, AOL Mail is not officially going away. However, its parent company, Verizon, has been transitioning its focus, and there have been concerns about the long-term viability of AOL services. Users are encouraged to stay informed about any updates from AOL or Verizon regarding the future of the platform. It’s always a good idea to have backup email options in case of any changes.
