Actually - it doesn't ! Peripheral devices are not for the computer's benefit - they're to aid the user. A computer will function perfectly well without a monitor, keyboard, rinter, or even a modem. The monitor lets the user see what the computer is doing, the keyboard lets the user interact with the information on the screen. The printer serves only to produce 'hard copy' so the user can take it away from the computer. The Modem is only needed if the user wishes to connect to another computer or the internet !
