Why is it that Windows 8 has a better performance than windows 7?

Windows 8 removed support for many legacy APIs, including older versions of DirectX and other older technologies. By removing this support, Microsoft reduced the maximum age of programs that will run on the system, and also gained a moderate speed boost from this optimization. They also introduced new features where idle programs might be terminated completely and restarted when the user requests it again. This aggressive memory and CPU management means that fewer applications will usually be running at once, freeing resources for other tasks.
