Wait and if it still doesn't work then turn it off. Or if it's completely frozen you can put it into recovery mode by pressing the power button for three seconds ane holding both buttons for ten seconds and then just the home button for fifteen seconds, then plug your iPod into your computer and click restore. You could also have a broken button and just need to get it repaired. It should be covered under warranty unless you've broken it in which case you will have to pay for a new button.
