Why should people turn off the monitors when they shut down computers in the lab?

For one, it's a good thing because your saving energy. Another thing is with laptops, sometimes laptops may burn out and cause damage which will prevent the computer from powering on. Trust me, it happened to someone i know.

It wastes unnessary energy and it can also signify if the computer is really turned off. Some people put the computer on hibernate or standby and it looks like it's turned off. Then some people would push the power and accidentaly turn the whole computer off.

There's no real technical reason for it, it just saves electricity and keeps the monitor from wearing out as soon. No-one is using the computer, so the monitor has no reason to be on. It's like why you turn out the lights when you leave your home.

If you are using a stationary computer, then leaving the monitor on after you have shut down the computer will use unnecessary power. Shut the monitors of, use less electricity, save money and ultimately save the environment.
