Hi guys, sorry this isn't the answer, it's my question but i thought i'd put a bit more info on it to help anyone work out the problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron 640m laptop, it's pretty old but works okay and recently it won't go past a blue screen that appears saying:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screem appears again follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check you hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

So yeah any info or help will be greatly appreciated!
