Try hitting F8 a whole bunch of times when it restarts. Keep hitting it till it says safe mode on , then move the cursor to launch "safe mode with networking".

Go to trend housecall (housecall) on Google and run the free virus scanner. My guess is your computer has a Trojan that keeps restarting the computer, if it still restarts in safe mode over and over then I don't know...

i don't think that a virus may b the cause ... did you checked the power connection of your CPU and motherboard.

even if its presisting its better to format C: and reinstall win. or you can go to safemode and install AVG or Avast .

It's hard to say for sure without having the system in hand to test, but here's a quick breakdown of what "could" be the cause of this problem.

1. Faulty Power Supply. In cases of age and/or power fluxes / surges, your computer's power supply could lose power on specific rails that could cause your system to restart at a specific point. The only way to test your unit is to use a handheld testing device (available on eBay $5) or by using a different power supply of the same or more wattage.

2. Memory. Your memory could have become faulty, so what the memory starts to work it could , at a certain point, cause the system to restart. There's a few ways to test this, first if you have multiple sticks, pull and try to boot the PC using 1 stick at a time, otherwise you may need to find a stick of the same type to test this theory out.

3. Hard Drive, here is the most common problem your hard drive, it could be failing and unable to read/write which causes it to reboot.

4. SOFTWARE, this would be my first check - your windows could be corrupt or missing loading files. If you have a original operating disc simply boot with it in the drive and do a system repair (windows will reinstall over existing copy) If you don't have the original disc, but a restore disc you might want to try to run that. Otherwise you need to have this service done or purchase a operating disc to reinstall the OS to see if it's missing important NTL loaders.

5. Spyware / Viruses This also could be the problem, you might want to boot the system in SAFE MODE (hold F8 while booting) , when in safe mode, run your virus software and any spyware removal programs you have. After you do a full scan, remove anything you see, reboot. Hopefully that solved the problem.

The above are the most common reasons, anything beyond that would point to your motherboard/processor having problems and that is a more serious problem. Try the above, start with software first, you should find the problem quickly!

Actually, in my years as a computer technician I found that about 9 times out of 10 it is associated somehow with overheating. Many times just giving your CPU heat sink a good cleaning will remedy the problem. That being said, the answers below could also be your culprit.

It could be a registry error in your system, so do a registry repair scan with Intel software partner Reg In Out registry cleaner.

NOTE: Registry errors normally cause crashes, NOT spontaneous reboots.

Can be the Power supply faulty memory because Ive just fixed a PC that had this problem after diagnosing it and working with it for 10hoursNOTE: Though it could possibly be the power supply, they more are more generally associated with crashes, hangs, and/or premature hardware failure rather than spontaneous reboots.
