It is not a true split screen in that it uses the wipes in movie maker so you do not get the full frame split.
As an example using a left to right wipe split. You will see the left side of the frame of the first clip but only see the right side or the clip for the second one.

I can download the installer and effect(s) alright, but can't get them to work in Movie Maker. But, that is with the Vista OS.
