Category 6 cable, often abbreviated as Cat 6, is the next generation of the widely used Ethernet networking cables. Category 5, or Cat 5, is an almost universal standard in offices and residential areas where a wired network is required. Cat 6 ups the ante by providing faster and more reliable transmission rates than ever before. By eliminating line noise and crosstalk problems, Cat 6 cable can provide 250 MHz transmission speed with supreme accuracy. The only problem with Cat 6 cable is that with its higher standards for noise comes a lower maximum length. Cat 6 cable can only be counted on to provide optimum speeds in lengths less than 90 meters.
