The simply answer is yes. If you are creating a DVD on the Apple Computer using iDVD for example you should be able to play that DVD on most any other DVD player. Some DVD players in some computers can be a bit more finicky than a stand-alone DVD player (such as you might have in your living room).
You can also create data DVDs (with files containing documents, photos, video files, etc). This may not be successfully read on any other computer - depending on the nature of the files.
