Batteries store energy. Just think about some of the ways batteries are used, and what alternatives you would use if you couldn't use batteries. Here are some examples:* Modern cars use batteries to start the engine. Without batteries, you would have to push the car, or - as I have seen myself some 40 years ago - turn the engine by hand (using a crank) to get it started.

* Cell phones use batteries. Without batteries, you basically couldn't use cell phones.

* Your computer uses a small battery to keep the date and time. Without such a battery, you would have to tell the computer the correct time, after every time you start it (or have it get the time from the internet).
