What is stored in Read-Only Memory?

Data that cannot be changed except at the source. Read only memory contains data that can only be "read" by the processor, or viewed in some way by the end user. When you use a R-CD to store data, for example, you cannot change it while it is on the R-CD. You can change the original source data and copy it onto the R-CD again. Read-Write CD's, on the other hand, allow data to be manipulated directly on the RW-CD.

What side of a CD is read?

CD are made of two parts plastic and polycarbonate (the shiny part) the bottom side is just plastic and the top side is where all the data it. The CD drive uses a laser that reads the polycarbonate through the plastic. So you look at the top part of the CD and its missing some of the polycarbonate your definitely going to get skips.

Does the shiny side go up when making a CD?

Yes, when burning a CD, the shiny side should face upwards. This allows the laser in the CD burner to properly read and write data to the disc. The label side, which is typically not shiny, should face down.

How many tracks are on a CD-ROM?

A CD-ROM typically contains a single continuous track that holds data, unlike audio CDs that have multiple tracks for songs. This data track is divided into sectors, which are used to store information. While the concept of "tracks" isn't applicable in the same way as it is for audio CDs, the data on a CD-ROM can be accessed in a sequential manner from this single track.
