I have used Alcohol heaters both factory and homemade with no problems,in fact Alcohol

fuel is considered the safest way to heat and cook on a boat, but you should always provide some fresh air anyway and a carbon monoxide detector is always a good idea,

Nothing will ever be 100% fool proof so a lot will depend on common sense,keep away from flammable items , any way that's my experience.
