You are not required to put nuts in brownies.
You don't have to add nuts, and even if you want nuts, they don't have to be walnuts. Pecans, almonds, and hazelnuts all work well. I've even had brownies with peanuts in them. They were good, too. But you can leave them all out and have just plain brownies.
Yes, just add them like you would chocolate chips or nuts - the red/green color will remain throughout cooking
Yes, you can add marshmallows to brownies for a gooey and delicious twist.

Brownies are a type of dessert that originated in the United States in the late 19th century. The exact origins of brownies are unclear, but they are believed to have been created by accident when a chef forgot to add baking powder to a chocolate cake recipe. Brownies became popular as a dessert choice due to their rich chocolate flavor, fudgy texture, and easy preparation. Over time, variations of brownie recipes have emerged, including additions like nuts, frosting, and different types of chocolate. Today, brownies are a beloved dessert enjoyed by people of all ages around the world.
Nuts add flavor and texture to the food being cooked. Nuts sprinkled on top also add to the appearance of the food, as a garnish.
You can substitute oil in brownies with ingredients like applesauce, mashed bananas, or Greek yogurt to make them healthier. These substitutes can also add a different flavor profile to the brownies.

My wife always bakes, freezes, then warms. Or freeze the apples in the pie dish that add to crust and bake when ready to serve.
To make protein brownies, you can substitute some of the flour in a traditional brownie recipe with protein powder. This will increase the protein content of the brownies. You can also add ingredients like Greek yogurt or nut butter to boost the protein content further.
