Don't ever put the wax down the sink, drain, toilet...etc.

Freeze the pan then scrape the frozen wax off. This works fine but can be a little slow.

If you are using a double boiler you can use a paper towel (sturdy paper towel example: viva) to soak up the excess wax and then pour boiling water from lower boiler into upper boiler and dispose of outside.
