From the time of Thomas Edison and his discovery of the light bulb?

At where we first found out the world was round?

Or at the Faraday cage or skin effect?

Electricity began as a study of animal fur rubbed on amber. By the 18th century, electromagnetism was being used, and Benjamin Franklin found a way to keep ligntning from burning down barns. The dawn of consumer electricity replaced the gas light with the incandescent bulb, and communication was revolutionized by the telegraph, and later by the telephone. Electric motors found their ways into industry, home appliances, and underwater engines for submarines.

The greatest change in the twentieth century was the change from analog electrical devices to electronics and then to printed circuits, which use comparatively tiny amounts of power. Electricity has become so ubiquitous that a power outage can cause widespread chaos, panic, and even life-threatening situations. The computer age and its dependence on electricity makes an uninterrupted supply of power essential in modern urban societies.

The original supplies of electrical power (coal, oil, and natural gas generators, and dams) have been joined by nuclear plants, solar cells, wind turbines, and tidal power. Many industries have been able to turn waste heat into valuable energy.
