Usually felled and and its bark removed - its highly used as a veneer - The veneer is cut from the "log" by very sharpe wide (10feet wide normally) blades. The log is turned and the blade advanced in to the wood literally scrapping off thin, wide layers of the Wood This is then left flat and allowed to slowly dry. when required it is shaped in to appropriate sizes (sheets) and attached to thin ply boards etc for use in manufacture
