A flange cutter used to cut excessive flange. For example to make a timer casing (made out of plastic) there are some excessive bits of plastic that look messy, untidy and are completelyunnecessary We use a flange cutter to cut the excess off. The flange cutter itself is a a smallish machine that looks like a flat, small, polished table with something sticking out of the middle. The thing sticking out of the middle is the cutter. There is a medium-sized blade that is usually very sharp and the most dangerous bit. When switched on, the blade will turn at a high speed and protective gloves can be worn as a safety precaution, but once confident, it is not entirely necessary. To cut the untidy bottom off of the time casing, you simply place the casing next to blade (carefully and steadily) and pull/drag it from one side to another. Most people found it easier to pull it from right to left, but it all depends on how you feel sturdiest. We took EXTREME CARE not to cut the corners off as this can have been dangerous and bad for the timer casing. The cutting was smooth and if there were still any rough bits we just sanded it off with a bit of sandpaper and cut the corners off using a type of saw that cut plastic. The flange cutter is a useful tool/machine and safe to use when being used in the right way. I hope this information was useful, LB82 CCHS
