Pizzagaina, commonly called Easter Pizza, is traditionally eaten at Easter. It is a meat-laden, egg-laden, cheese-filled pie. It offers a surfeit of these elements to once again indulge after the long Lenten fast.
The filling, which goes into a heavy crust, consists of whatever meats you want to include. Traditionally, chunks of ham, but can include salami, cappacola, prosciutti if you wish. Eggs and cheeses make this dish like a solid custard after baking.
Once cooked, it is refrigerated, and generally eaten cold. Despite the fact that it is less than healthful, over-indulging shouldn't be a problem since this "pie" weighs a ton and is so filling that a normal person can't eat much of it.
