Marco Polo did not actually use a ship on his explorations. Most of the route he traveled was overland by foot, camel or horseback.
He didn't have a ship. His travels were mainly over land and if he did use a ship at some point he probably caught one that skimmed the coastline with trade goods. He wasn't outfitted as a big expedition. It was mainly him.

Caravel sailing ships were developed in the 15th century, which is from the years 1401-1500. Marco Polo lived from 1254-1324. So, he did not use Caravel ships.
