Giovanni da Verrazzano, the Italian explorer, searched for a route to the Indies through North America in 1524. Commissioned by the French crown, he explored parts of the Atlantic coast of North America, including what is now New York Harbor and the surrounding areas. His voyage aimed to find a passage to the Pacific and ultimately to Asia, but he did not succeed in locating such a route.

Verrazano, Cartier, and Hudson were all explorers who searched for a western sea route to Asia or a passage to the Pacific Ocean. They were seeking a quicker and more direct route for trading goods with Asia.
