Where are the Galapagos Islands Located?

The Galapagos Islands (archipelago of volcanic islands) can be found in the easterly Pacific, 973 km off the western coast of South America (Ecuador).

The nearest land mass is the mainland of Republic of Ecuador to the east (the country to which these islands belong), in the north is Cocos Island at 720 kilometer (389 nmi; 447 mi) and south is Easter Island and San Felix Island at 3,200 kilometer (1,730 nmi; 1,990 mi).

The capital town is Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, lies at the southern tip of the island.
